Fergus Kane
Clinical Psychologist
I welcome all clients to come for an assessment regardless of the particular difficulties they are facing.
However, it's worth knowing that just as every therapist has particular areas of strength, every therapist will have gaps in their knowledge and experience.
A good therapist will know when they are working beyond their experience. This will often be clear following an initial consultation and assessment. I am willing to be flexible and when it is safe to do so, I will consider working with clients in areas in which I have less experience. Whether I take on such work, will depend on a variety of factors, including my access to sufficient expert supervision (all psychologists, regardless of experience, are expected to have access to supervision), and whether I know of a therapist who might be more suitable for you.
If I am not able to take your case for any reason, I will be very happy to help you find a suitable alternative.
With that covered, here is a brief summary of the areas in which I have experience.
Although the majority of my experience is certainly with adults, I have worked successfully with clients of all ages, from young children to older adults.
Likewise, I would like to emphasise that the therapeutic space is a safe space in which you can be sure you will not experience discrimination based on your age gender, ethnicity, sexual identity or religion.
Last but certainly not least! While the majority of my work is with individual clients, I welcome work with couples and families.
